It has been the sixth post since I started introducing some famous Internet meme. Last week, I even gave you guys the introduction to the famous (infamous as well) website: 4Chan. Since I always think that it’s better to take an exercise than to keep listening to a teacher, today, I will crop some real threads from some boards of 4Chan, and then analyze the usage of the memes.

/int/

As I’ve introduced in the last week’s post, /int/ is the place where people in different countries have fun with each other. Right from a replier’s name(usually Anonymous), there’s the replier’s country flag; that’s the characteristic of /int/.

In this thread, the OP, standing for “Original Poster”, is in New Zealand, and the repliers are in New Zealand, Poland, Israel, and Norway, respectively.

Firstly, the OP started the discussion about some candidate of the new flag of New Zealand, which is not that high-discussed in Taiwan, with some indecent words of course. Secondly, a replier right below the OP claimed none of them should be changed, with the famous meme, Smug frog, and some indecent words of course. Thirdly, the Polish guy replied another reply (green one), with a rage comic meme, claiming it was ridiculous. Forthly, the polite Israeli guy also said he/she thought the original one is good enough. Finally, the Norwegian showed Australia’s flag with the satiric question: “How about this one?”

Question? Maybe you’ll think “It’s fun, though, what’s the benefit reading this kind of thread”? My answer to that is, through this thread, we obtain

1.     news which Taiwan media won’t give,

2.     knowledge of memes,

3.     humor,

4.     the ability of ignoring indecent words.

Summary

Living in this land, we have less chance than others outside the world gaining the information. Seriously, I didn’t know the difference between the flags of New Zealand and Australia before this, but through interacting with people in different nations, even just having fun with them, we know the world much more.
