Black Twitter

YO

Welcome to view my third post. Today’s post is to give an introduction and some examples of “Black Twitter.”

What’s “Black Twitter?”

Is it a kind of Twitter post filled with hating messages? Well, not that simple. According to Wikipedia,
Black Twitter is a cultural identity on the Twitter social network focused on issues of interest to the black community, particularly in the United States.[2]
So, it’s actually an interesting racial phenomenon floated on “Twitter.” Let’s take a look on some examples below. (Maybe a comparison with “White Twitter” is going to be fine.)

As we can see, Black Twitter(right) is more vulgar than White Twitter is, and there’s usually wrong grammar with them.

Not only like that…

Black Twitter is not only having fun; it’s a kind of power surrounding in the social media. It will never lose any chance to carry out its justice once the society needs it.

#IfTheyGunnedMeDown
After Ferguson, Missouri, police officer Darren Wilson fatally shot unarmed resident Michael Brown, a high school student in Houston, Texas, named Tyler Atkins tweeted an informal photo of himself in casual clothes including a T-shirt and a bandana, and a second photo of himself posing with his prized saxophone. Atkins claimed that if the police shot him down, media would broadcast the photo of him wearing a T-shirt and a bandana and not the photo of him posing with his saxophone. #IfTheyGunnedMeDown spread virally in the course of worldwide social media attention paid to the Ferguson crisis. The hashtag was posted several hundred times in the weeks following Atkins' initial use of it.[5]

African-blooded people started to post different photos of themselves and asked ironically “If they gunned me down, which photo would they use?” I think, if people in the world can notice this sad story by doing so, then how came this not being kind of power?

Summary

You’ve seen some just-for-fun Black Twitter posts. You’ve seen an influential hashtag movement along with a sad story. So I want to summarize today’s post with a short sentence:
Internet memes are playful, yet powerful.
Thanks for reading, hope you like it!

Chuck Norris facts

Yo

Hi, welcome to view my second post. Before the start, I have to say that it’s much harder than I thought to write a post about something you used to read just for fun. However, I’d be happy as long as you enjoy the post!

So…, who is Chuck Norris?

[1]

“Carlos Ray "Chuck" Norris (born March 10, 1940) is an American martial artist, actor, film producer and screenwriter. After serving in the United States Air Force, he began his rise to fame as a martial artist, and has since founded his own school, Chun Kuk Do.” [2]

As you can see above, Chuck Norris seems to be a “normal” martial artist. Isn’t he normal? Well, at least not on the Internet!

Songs of a legend

Nobody knows when and how it began, but some jokes* started to float around. Here is a example below:

“Chuck Norris died 20 years ago, Death just hasn’t built up the courage to tell him yet.”[3]

There’re some scientific ones:

“Chuck Norris has already been to Mars; that’s why there are no signs of life.”
“Chuck Norris counted to infinity - twice.”
“There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of animals Chuck Norris allows to live.”
Sure there “was” something trying to attack Chuck Norris:
“Chuck Norris once got bit by a rattle snake....... After three days of pain and agony………… the rattle snake died.”
[3]

Because the story above are all true (he is Chuck Norris!), people then call them “Chuck Norris Facts”.

Other legends…

Not only does Chuck Norris have songs describing the legend. There’re also Suzuki Ichiro (鈴木一朗) facts and Bruce Lee (李小龍) facts. Don’t forget that as long as you are interested, the Internet always have something funny for you!

Countryball

Yo

Hi, guys, welcome to my blog reading the very first post. Today I’m gonna introduce an Internet meme which I consider with a lot of fun; that is “countryball”!

Introduction

Countryball was originally invented as “Polandball”(below) by users on the Internet.

A Countryball is literally a ball colored like the country’s flag.

A country ball’s “personality” is usually matched to the country’s stereotype, like Japanball would eat Sushi, have “kawaii” expression; Americaball is fat and can’t remember other country’s names.

BTW, you can google what Japanball looked like before the end of WWII!

Americaball's stripes

An interesting fact

Countryballs usually speak English with wrong grammar; some European countryballs might even mix their mother tongues in talk, but according to context, we still can understand what they’re saying.

About drama

Drama in Countryball Comics usually satirizes the countrys’ economic, historical, and politic situation. For a politic example, Americans don’t like Mexicans to cross the border, but in the other hand, Canadians don’t want Americans take their hometown as American’s garden. Thus, we have the comic below here.

For historical ones, Germanyball is usually satirized because of its identities in World War I and World War II. Taking this one for example, we can recall the course taught in high school.

From left to right: Kingdom of France, German Confederation, Sweden, British Empire, German Empire, French Republic, USA&England, Nazi Germany, Soviet Union.

Of course, we can’t just mention Germanyball without its best friend, Italyball, a Spaghetti-loving yet not-good-at-warring ball. Here’s the comic illustrating the long relationship between the two balls.

Something never changes...

Summary

Countryball is a fans-generated meme, yet its easily drown line and funny dialogue can remind us of relation among the countries. I think that you could learn things while laughing, and that’s the greatest part of Internet memes.
